Improvment: Specifically, from southern Maine to as far south as coastal Georgia during the late sixteenth through the early-to-mid eighteenth centuries. The first places were North Carolina (then a part of Virginia), Massachusetts/Plymouth Colony, and Maine. The English later spread throughout New England, New Netherland (more or less New York), and the Carolinas, to include Georgia. Later, following the French and Indian War the English settled along the St. Lawrence River valley in present-day Canada and Florida. This included the southern portions of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, as well as modern-day Florida as they were a part of West or East Florida. There were also pockets of the English who had managed to congregate and settle in relatively small numbers in Illinois along the Mississippi River and Indiana along the Ohio River. The English also moved into what is now Kentucky and Tennessee from Virginia and/or North Carolina. However, when the colonists began moving west of the Allegheny, or today, Appalachian, Mountains, British control of the American colonies was almost over. Canada remained loyal to Great Britain, as did the Florida colonies. In short, from the East Coast to the Mississippi, and from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico.

∙ 6y agoThe British settled (in the world) in at least one of all the countries in each continent. However, about 1 in every 4 people in the world was ruled by Great Britain, so the British Empire covered up only about 1 quarter of the world, so their motto 'the sun never sets on the British Empire' would actually work, by at least 1 continent's country's (that was being ruled over Great Britain) time would be daytime.
