The settlers in Jamestown led by Lord De La Warr introduced "Irish tactics" against the Indians. They were unfairly cruel but proved to be effective. They were the same type of tactics that were used by the Powhatans. His troops and he, raided Indian villages, took food provisions, burned down houses and cornfields.
