Britain gained tea, rice, spice and cotton from India and many other things from other countries.I think Britain wanted an Empire because they needed stuff like More taxes, more people for army's, more trade, more political power. They wanted an empire so they could be rich and have power, making money for British companies, stopping other European powers developing their empires and becoming too powerful, trying to spread the Christian faith, get a good job in the government of the empire, wanting to learn about new lands and people, hoping to settle down and start a new life in a new land
