The United States of America is a country that is on the move. Departure boards in airports and bus stations display the names of American towns and cities across six time zones.

Paragraph 2:The endless traffic flows through the great cities of the east before spreading out along the interstate highway network. Here are the huge green-and-yellow patchwork fieldsof Nebraska, under a thundery sky. Drivers draw up at a truck stop for a doughnut and a pot a coffee. There are the hills of Wyoming in pale moonlight and the shimmering desert highways of Arizona. And here on the West Coast, traffic crosses San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge and the freeways of Los Angeles.

Paragraph 3: Although the United States is the most populous country in the Americas, it still has many areas of wilderness. It is bordered to the east by the Atlantic Ocean and to the west by the Pacific Ocean. To the south, its border with Mexico follows the Rio Grande, whereas most of the northern border with Canada is a straight line ruled straight across the map, rather than a natural feature. Alaska, in the northwest, forms an Arctic outpost, while the volcanic islands of Hawaii lie far to the west in the Pacific Ocean.
