It currently has no affect on any facet of American laws. It was fully signed and ratified on August 2, 1776. Most people believe that it was fully signed on July 4, 1776, but only John Hancock signed it that day, which explains the size of his signature. The only event in American history on July 4 before 1776 was George Washington's defeat at Fort Necessity.-Akilae
