The Immigration Act of 1924, which built upon the immigration measures enacted during the previous Harding Administration. The act was oft maligned for being one of the many grievances against the United States by Japan, as it banned Japanese Immigration. The act also restricted immigration from Central and South America, but was primarily levied at immigrants coming from Eastern Europe. The Oil Pollution Act of 1924, which prohibited the intentional release of oil in U.S. coastal territory. This act was regarded as largely ineffective and was repealed by the Clean Water Act of 1972.
