5th November: Guy Fawkes Day.
From an attempt by a group of Catholic rebels to blow up King James I in 1605 by packing Westminster Palace cellars with explosives. The plot was discovered when one of the plotters tried to warn a friend - the friend got suspicious and the palace was searched. Guy Fawkes was not the leader of the rebellion, but was the man caught in the cellar guarding the powder. The plot was actually exposed on the 4th of November, but the news wasn't known about London until the following day - and it was this day that got marked.Remember, remember The 5th of November
