Products and trade during the New England colonization period and later:
The New England Colonies had to make due with what was available to them. Since the rocky New England soil was less suitable for large-scale agriculture, people in the colonies usually raised only enough food for their own use. Many people who lived in that region had to depend on fishing and whaling or shipbuilding and trading for their livelihood.
Eventually, through heavy toil, fields for growing crops and produce in larger quantity were cleared and some New England communities (such as in Connecticut) became crop and food producing centers to support the surrounding more populated areas. The bigger rocks which were moved to clear the fields were stacked aside and are still seen, many still in use, as stone fences marking off earlier property lines. By the 1800's this area was largely agricultural.
The trees seen in most of Connecticut today are second growth, the original forests were cleared for agriculture or used for wood products and harvested for wood for housing. By 1820 only 25% of the original forests of Connecticut were left, largely due to agricultural clearing. The second growth returned after fields were abandoned when small farming operations could not outpace the highly mechanized farms of Western New York and the Ohio River Valley in the 1830's and beyond with the influence of the Erie Canal for those areas to take products to widening markets.
mostly grains and potatoes. But again it depends on the century and the wave of Immigration.
The answer above isn't correct. You are propably meaning before the revolution, in the early "USA," so the answer to that would be this: Cotton was produced in the southern colonies with great help from slavery, and then either shipped directly to Britian, or sent up to the Northern colonies to be turned into textiles, which was basically cloth.
The first answer is correct, but incomplete. The second answer is wrong. First: GRAINS, POTATOES, WHALING, LUMBER, CATTLE and FINISHED GOODS. Second post: Cotton was not big in the south until AFTER the Revolutionary war. So, we would then be referring to STATES, not colonies. The southern colonies exported TOBACCO, INDIGO, RICE and NAVAL STORES (tar, turpentine pitch, lumber etc.) But, I can't seem to find MEW EMGLAND on any map. hmmm

Whoa, whoa, slow down. The Pilgrims brought new ideas and metals and technology. Which in the first winter, lacked sustenance. You can't eat a metal or an invention. The one solid line drawn thru all native American cultures was a tacit respect for the demonstrably insane. Insanity, for various reasons, was not unheard of. The Spanish, brought syphilis to the New World. In tribal cultures, it happens.
When 100 sickly people arrive in a large wooden canoe and then hit the beach on their knees, weep and pray, you can easily see a shocked but reasoned conclusion. They must be goofy.
When my neighbourhood foundling goes bizarre, I feed him. Calms them right down.
There was no giant scheme to grant or deny. Took time for that. Once fed, a once starving, has time to consider. Advantages. Thanksgiving is an annual reflection of Adams and Eves, meeting in Eden. And deciding how to best for them, divide up the Apple.
Nothing more and nothing less.
