The Confederate States Of America was formed by eleven states that seceded from the United States.
No states seceded from the Civil War. Seven states had seceded from the USA by the time of Fort Sumter, and four more seceded as a result of it. Later one new state, West Virginia, seceded from Virginia.
The group of states that seceded from the Union during the American Civil War is known as the Confederate States of America. This group included 11 southern states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. They seceded primarily over issues related to slavery and states' rights.
