The name Upton originates from Belgium and means "Ladies Pants". The well known cheese maker Mads Upton who pioneered cheese production in the 1600s was caught stealing ladies underwear from washing lines. In court he was found guilty and when asked if he had anything to say, he said "pants!!". The word Upton has become synonymous with ladies underwear.
