Previous portraits on US $10 bills included the following individuals:

  • President Abraham Lincoln, 1862 series
  • Secretary of the Treasury Salmon P. Chase, 1863
  • Daniel Webster and an allegorical image of Pocahontas, 1869
  • Benjamin Franklin, 1870
  • Founding Father Robert Morris, 1878
  • Vice President Thomas Hendricks, 1886
  • General Philip Sheridan, 1890
  • Explorers Lewis and Clark, 1901
  • First Treasurer of the US Michael Hillegass, 1907
  • President Andrew Jackson, 1914 through 1923 series

Since 1928, all $10 bills have carried a portrait of Alexander Hamilton, the first US Secretary of the Treasury. He is one of only two non-presidents on current US bills, the other being Benjamin Franklin on the $100 bill.
