A slave is a valuable commodity in the mind of a slave trader, therefore a dead slave means a loss of capital. In the Transatlantic slave trade the slaves were purchased from the coastal tribes who generally captured people from the inland tribes. Even if a slave-trader captured slaves on his own, it would require money to pay the men to do the capturing. Then there was the expense of feeding a slave, which would lost money if the slave died. In the early days of the trade, there were no purpose-built ships so slaves were kept in large groups, but as sailing ships increased in speed they built ships where slaves could be packed into shelf-like bunks. They would try to quickly make the passage to the West Indies before muscles atrophied and too many slaves had a chance to die.
In earlier times, especially at the height of the Roman Empire, slaves were generally spoils of war, and were not so valuable as there was no initial price paid for many them, and slavery was so common that slaves were quite inexpensive. Slave traders of that period were less worried about the health of their slaves, as life was far cheaper--unless the slaves were young and pretty girls or well-trained and -educated.
no older slaves did the hard labor. elderly slaves babysat the children until they were old enough to start working themselves. sometimes slave owners would have sex with their slaves to make more baby slaves so that when they grow they can do work. also some slave women were promised freedom if they had 15 babies with their slave owner.
Life was hard. The field slaves worked from sun up till sun down and the house slaves worked even longer though their job might be considered easier. The life of a slave depended entirely on their owner. Some were cruel and some were almost kind, "almost" can only be said because they had slaves in the first place. Slaves were basically tools to be used, worn out and then replaced. Woman were also used for making more slaves. Some were made to marry and bear children before they were even 13 years old. There is an entire genre of Slave Literature. Nat Turner wrote one and so did several other individuals. First of all the slaves were spread throughout the U.S. But to answer your question slave life was not as hard as people today make it out to be. Being a slave was like being in poverty. You didn't have much money but you had a house and clothes. You weren't whipped unless you tried to steal or escape the farm. Basically you were treated asif u were a child and/or employee of the owner.
The fur traders faced hard portages and treacherous raids, and deadly insects that could cause suicide
The main reason slaves worked hard were because they could be punished if they did not. Slaves could be punished is a number of ways, which ranged from being whipped to being killed.
Farming and other hard labor.
the slaves in great Britain had to work hard on the slave ships and do what people say really
To see how hard they could work their new slaves. Also, if their slave was in bad condition, they could blame the previous owner for selling them a bad slave.
they treated them like animals and made them do hard labor
They viewed their slaves as being nothing but objects, not even accounting for their feelings, using them for hard labor.

Although it is not generally known, slavery was and had been ubiquitous in Africa for centuries. The slaves sold to cross-Atlantic slave traders (although the numbers were admittedly big) were only a small part of the number of Africans enslaved and kept as slaves by other Africans. Not many African slaves were sold to colonists. The only sizable number of colonists before 1890 lived in Cape Town, and they mostly used Asian contract labourers who were considered more efficient and hard-working. The colonists entering Africa afterwards came in long after slavery had already been abolished.
Egytian slaves were almost women. And the owner of the Egytian slave was really strict to them. They didn't usually give them food and their money. So the slaves have hard times if they are slaves. Also some slaves even get beatened up by their owner if they don't work properly. * I wish this can answer your question ^^

Masters treated their slaves really horrible and they would do it because they THOUGHT they could. The owners would whip the slaves for no apparent reason, and if a slave was taught to read or write a slave owner would cut off his\her toes, then fingers, then any other body parts the 'master' thought the slaves didn't need.
