Can flea spray or powder for cats be used on guinea pigs?

clean the cage throughly and get some mite/lice spray from the pet shop

guinea pigs can catch fleas but they don't start off with it it could cause a really bad skin condition though that is what killed one of my guinea pigs so get them treated often, if they itch alot, then go to your vet for advice on how to beat it. Unfortunatley we noticed it to late so he passed away very soon after we spotted it

No you can not use any kind of flea, tick or lice powder on a guinea pig. A guinea pigs skin is extremely sensitive and the powder could cause skin irritation, blindness and even death if used. If your guinea pig has mites, lice or any other problem, you should call you vet immediately to get the proper treatment.

It best to spray the surrounding area and any other cats, dogs first. Using a flea comb, comb the hair removing any foreign bodies, especially the flea eggs. Thoroughly clean the cage with a mild disinfectant, and dispose of all bedding.

Once the hutch, cage is thoroughly clean and new bedding and sawdust has been placed, replace your guinea pig and keep it away from any cats and dogs. Repeat until all infestations are no longer seen.

If it doubt or the condition, look after your guinea pig and take it to a vet.
