How much does it cost for the PlayStation network?

It is not a network for the PS3 which is free it is a broadband internet connection which has a monthly service contract and different rates from even the same provider including some introductory rates and Bundle rates when combined with other services like phone and television. Some as low as $20 a month. For myself I already had a internet connection for the computer with Comcast and I just had to go to Best Buy and purchase a Wireless router to connect to the Comcast Modem.That allowed me to split the Comcast signal between the PlayStation and the Computer instead of switching the plug into the modem each time I wanted to switch from the PS3 to the Computer. Also a PS3 does not need to have WiFi connection and for me even though I have WiFi I find the connection test speeds better with a wired connection using an ethernet cable. While I sent $75 on the router and $20 on the 50 foot 6A ethernet Cable prices can vary

actually it is free, but you have to pay for in game downloads and map packs, stuff like that. But to play online with friends or others around the world it is free as long as you have an internet connection for the playstation 3.

That depends if you already have the internet service required and already have a WiFi connection capability. If you do then adding the PS3 to your service will depend on your plan. For me I spent $80 to buy a router for WiFi in my house and another $20 for a 50 foot Belkin 6a ethernet cable so I could have a wired PS3 internet connection. I could have chosen greater and less expensive routers from $20 to $200 or even decided to unplug my PC every time I wanted to use the PS3 online. Comcast does not charge me any more for the Playstation 3 to be connected to the Internet service I was already using for the PC and the Playstation Network is free. If you do not have an Internet Service Provider you must add that to the cost to get online for the PS3 and the monthly cost will be based upon the plan and your provider.

If you purchased a 320 GB PS3 I would recommend trying a 1 year subscription to Playstation plus for the free games add ons and reduced pricing offers as well as the automatic updates capability it gives your PS3. The larger harddrive will have plenty of room for you to decide to download everything that is offered for free otherwise the Playstation network does not have a monthly or annual charge that Xbox Live Gold users must pay.
