Like the rest of the franchise, Animal Crossing is targeted at both boys and girls; there is no gender-specific requirement to play it. New Leaf introduces dresses, pants and shorts, as well as tights/stockings and socks. a) you're able to choose your gender

b) in New Leaf, dresses, pants and shorts are introduced but either sex may wear the opposite clothing type

c) it's a Nintendo franchise; Nintendo is known for their Universal audience target. ;)

Not forgetting that there's also a salon (as of Wild World) that offers both male and female haircuts, make-up (City Folk and New Leaf only), etcetera.
