yes it is. You can't blame the child since he was abused from such an early age it is only natural for the child to shun authoritative figures. my friend wh has lives with an abusive stepfather for a long time shuns authority figures(anyone can figure out why he does). children are quite sensative sometimes and when someone does something in front of them or worse, to them, they will not forget it easily. they will mistrust people. they will start building a "brick wall" so to speak as a means of keeping any figures that slightly resemble authority out. if you have any questions or want advice you can email me at garthbgrth@netscape.net. GOOD LUCK!!!

Are there books and videos available for verbally abusive men who want to change?

* The best way for an abused man to move on from a verbally abusive relationship is to seek counseling. Just like women, men may have lost their self respect; feel demeaned and ashamed (they are suppose to be the stronger sex) and he needs to find out why he stayed so long in the abusive relationship. Without proper counseling just like women, men can choose another abusive partner in the future and don't have the tools to tell when rag flags go up that the person they are with is controlling at best and the worst .. verbally or even physically abusive. Men have been brought up to not hit women, so it is very often hard for the man to make sense as to why he put up with the abuse for so long. Men can be victims of abuse too and they should not blame themselves.

15 yr old girl, who very defiant, lies, verbally abusive, steals, failing in school, no respect for authority, probably sexually active, seems to be void of feeling for others. Is there help?

Her behavior leads me to believe that she may have been sexually assaulted by someone close to her. There is plenty of help if she is willing to open up. Her bad behavior isn't because she is evil, she has problems with authority because someone in authority let her down. Contact your local police department to find out what services they offer. Your first stop should be her school's guidance counselor who can recommend the right type of mental health physician to meet her demanding needs.
