The current systems are Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux (which is in the same classification as "others"). minecraft can work on a variety of sub-systems for these systems, although I have a friend who's graphics card does not allow him to play other than in-browser, which reminds me, even if you can't download it, you can play in an internet window, which only requires java, which is, to my knowledge, installed in most computers (wow, lots of commas). For more information, go to minecraft.net.

For a more technical answer, here are systems that run it well:

Dell Latitude D620

Windows XP SP3

Intel Core 2 CPU

T7200 @ 2.00Ghz

1.32Ghz, 1.00 GB of RAM

NVidia Quadro NVS 110M

Here are systems that barely (too much lag to have any fun) run it:

Generic PC

Windows XP SP3

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual

Core Processor 4200+

2.20Ghz, 2.00GB of RAM

NVidia GeForce 6200

dslynx of Minecraftforum.net tested these.
