Just my opinion, but I don't think there's any such thing as "good for awhile" when it comes to a compulsive liar. He's just told lies that you don't know about. Also, I'm assuming that "good for awhile" means he's conned you into thinking he's "cured" himself when he feels that point of view will benefit him. Magically getting better nad being good is not going to happen. He needs long term treatment. From a professional. Besides that, it sounds like he needs some "tough love." Giving in to him -- especially when he's being manipulative -- isn't helping him OR those close to him.
