minecraft was created in a high -level programing language called Java which was based off of C. If it is not running then you either do not have java or its too old to be compatible with it. Or if it starts and cannot load, then Notch ( the guy who made the game) is having server issues or your internet has problems. Plus there's always the situation in which your computer's hardware isn't capable of handling it. If you try all of these and they don't work, contact another source. P.S., create a restore point before changing hardware components in case the new ones are defective. use the hardware issue as a last resort.
Sometimes it is lag. But in this case, it seems like you have a block on top of your chest. If you put a block on your chest, the chest wont open.
Re instull Minecraft
I can answer this for Windows and Mac: Windows: Find your Minecraft folder (search: %appdata%\minecraft) and delete the folder named "bin". Re-open Minecraft and it will re-download the bin, fixing it. Mac: In Finder, go to your Hard drive (the silver rectangle that is named "HardDrive", users, your user name, library, Application Support, Minecraft, and delete your "bin" folder. Re-open your client and it will re-download the bin, fixing it.
You have to download the TooManyItems Mod for Minecraft. Search it up on the forums and download the ones that correspond with your minecraft version. When you update minecraft your Mods wont work because they will become and old version so wait for the mod maker to release a new version of the mod that works with the new version.

They don't.
If you don't have Minecraft bought, then buy it, then open minecraft, and it will update to 1.0.
Windows XP: Open the start menu, click "Run" then type %appdata%. It will open a folder with Roaming in it. Open that, and then click on the .minecraft file. Windows 7: Open the start menu, and then type %appdata% in the search bar. It will open a folder with Roaming in it. Open that, and then click on the .minecraft file.
