Black pipe, typically used for gas lines, is not recommended for water supply because it can corrode and lead to rust and sediment in the water. Instead, it's better to use pipes specifically designed for water, such as copper, PVC, or PEX. These materials are more suitable for Plumbing applications and ensure safe and clean water delivery. Always check local plumbing codes for the best practices in your area.
Galvanized pipe will be silver/gray color. Copper will be copper. Use a magnet, it'll stick to galvanized pipe but not to copper. Drinking water lines should not be black steel pipe.
Black iron pipe is used for gas installations but ONLY if the piping is indoors. Outdoor gas piping is usually done in galvanized pipe. Steam is also piped with black pipe, fire sprinkler and standpipe systems also use black pipe.
water pipe
Mainly for making water pipe.
You should use black pipe -- Galv. pipe will flake off inside of pipe
only for the gas connections , not for the water connections because if you do hook up black iron pipe for a water connection you could possibly have a little flood years later when you forget you even have a water heater and water will always remind you.Yes and you can use black pipe for steam / Steam condensate / Oil lines / Fire suppression / Hot water heating (hydronics) air lines / HVAC chiller applications BUT not on fresh water as fresh /potable water contains oxygen and this will corrode the piping and you cannot direct connect any black iron to copper.
Black steel
Because that is what is used for gas.
Yes, it's better pipe.
Use only black pipe

Plumber's black, often referred to as plumber's black pipe, is a type of steel pipe commonly used for gas lines and in various plumbing applications. It is coated with a black oxide finish to protect against corrosion and is typically available in various sizes. Unlike galvanized pipe, which has a zinc coating, plumber's black is not suitable for carrying drinking water. Its primary use is in systems that transport natural gas or propane.
