What causes pool to be cloudy you have de filter has been cleaned and seems everytime the pump starts de shoots into the pool?

The filter needs to be dismantled to find the damaged elements and replace them. While the filter is down have all the grids inspected and cleaned to determine if more are damaged. Depending upon filter brand there are 8 grids.

What is de for a pool?

DE, also called Diatomaceous Earth, are the bones of tiny anamils and algae that lived millions of year ago. It's used to coat the grids of DE filters. The dirt is trapped in the DE on the grids and is back-washed out, similar to a sand filter. Then fresh DE is put in the skimmer and re-coats the grids. About once per month you should take your DE filter apart and clean the grids, then re-coat them with fresh DE. DE filters are a bit more expensive but if you have to have the best water, DE is the way to go.

Why is your filter putting earth in pool?

I am assuming this is in regards to a DE fileration for a pool. My experience is that you may have a hole in one of the grids. You will need to take out the grids and spray off very well and check for holes. Replace if needed. Also, check top of filer for air screen or vent and see if it missing or has a hole and replace if necessary. One other thing is to make sure the o-ring is in place when you put filter back together on the pipe where they connect. There needs to be a good seal and this does make a difference. In my experience this will stop DE from getting back into your pool.

Too much de in pool filter?

Clean it out and start again. Check and manual for the amount of DE in the filter. Too much is like throwing money literally down the drain. While your cleaning the grids check for tears.

How does a DE filter work on a pool?

Simply put, Diatomaceous Earth (DE) are the bones of tiny little animals that lived millions and millions of years ago, diatoms. This DE is used to coat the "grids" inside the DE filter which captures and filters particles as small as 5 microns. When the filter pressure rises, the swimming pool DE filter is backwashed in the same manner as a sand filter. A slurry of DE is put into the skimmer to "recharge" or "re-coat" the grids of these swimming pool DE filters. This type of filter is effective and efficient but a little more expensive to maintain. Some call it the "water polisher" of pool filters.

Where and how do you apply the DE to the pool filter?

Start by cleaning the entire filter. Disassemble and hose off the grids. Without this process you are just guessing as to what is already in the filter. Reassemble. The formula is usually on all DE bags . . . you have to know the square footage of the filter. This is usually stated on the name plate of the filter. Such as 36 sq.ft; 48 sq.ft.; With Hayward it is usually 4800;3600 etc. An easy to remember formula would be take the sq. ft, divide by 5, this answer will tell you how many cans or scoops of DE are dumped into the skimmer. Example: 48 div. by 5 = 10 rounded off. Note: if your filter is more than 1 yr old ~ your filter will have a residual of old DE left in the tank after each Back Wash ~ it never totally removes all the old DE and dirt during a B/W ~ this accumulates so that is why you clean out the filter tank. This formula will give you an even and uniform coating on all grids ~ the DE is what is doing the filtering not the cloth grids. k

Why would stuff like DE and other various particles seem to be blowing back into the pool - both through the jets and the auto cleaner connection?

Your D. E. filter elements or grids have holes in them. Shut down the system, making sure it will not come on while you work on the filter. Remove and clean the grids and inspect for holes. Replace those units that are damaged, reassemble with a new tank gasket and test. With the system running, recharge the filter with the proper amount of D.E. Ken
