Eastern Asia
After World War II, much of Eastern Europe was controlled by the Soviet Union, which established communist regimes in several countries, including Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania, and East Germany. This influence was part of the broader strategy of the USSR to expand its sphere of influence and create a buffer zone against the West. The imposition of communist governments led to significant political, social, and economic changes in the region, resulting in tensions that contributed to the Cold War.
After World War II, Eastern European countries fell under communist influence largely due to the Soviet Union's expansionist policies and the establishment of control over these nations. The USSR sought to create a buffer zone against potential future invasions and spread its ideology, leading to the installation of communist governments in countries like Poland, Hungary, and Czechoslovakia. Additionally, the devastation of the war left many Eastern European nations politically and economically weak, making them more susceptible to Soviet domination and the appeal of communist promises of stability and recovery.
The Soviet Union and its Eastern Bloc satellite states did not accept the Marshall Plan, officially known as the European Recovery Program. They viewed the plan as a means for the United States to exert economic influence in Europe and undermine communist governments. Instead, the Soviets established their own economic program, COMECON, to promote economic cooperation among communist countries.
Communist countries during the Red Scare include Russia, China, Eastern Europe, and Korea. The Cincinnati Reds baseball team changed their name to the "Redlegs" during the scare so their name wouldn't be associated with communism.

The satellite countries controlled by the USSR included Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, East Germany, Romania, and Bulgaria. These nations were part of the Eastern Bloc and were heavily influenced by Soviet policies and ideology during the Cold War. The USSR maintained control through military presence, political pressure, and economic ties, suppressing dissent and promoting communist governments. The dominance of these countries began to wane with the fall of the Iron Curtain in the late 1980s.
