Well - that depends on the time and where. In the United states - children used to go outside and play ball - or hide and seek, or kick the can. there were tons of games and plenty of parks to play them in. In today's day and age - the parks and fields are empty. The children are either sitting at a computer, a game console, or in front of the television

Roman children had a wide variety of toys, just as our children have today. Babies had rattles, girls had dolls, boys had wooden swords and miniature soldiers. Toddlers had pull toys in the shape of some animal and the older children had Board Games. If a family were wealthy enough, their son would perhaps have the ancient version of a go-cart. This was a miniature chariot type wagon pulled by a goat. All ages had balls for the many types of catch-bounce games the Romans, both adults and children played.
