The chupacabra (Spanish pronunciation: [tʃupaˈkaβɾa], from chupar "to suck" and cabra "goat", literally "goat sucker") is a legendary cryptid rumored to inhabit parts of the Americas. It is associated more recently with sightings of an allegedly unknown animal in Puerto Rico (where these sightings were first reported), Mexico, and the United States, especially in the latter's Latin American communities.[1] The name comes from the animal's reported habit of attacking and drinking the blood of livestock, especially goats.

Physical descriptions of the creature vary. Eyewitness sightings have been claimed as early as 1995 in Puerto Rico, and have since been reported as far north as Maine, and as far south as Chile, and even being spotted outside the Americas in countries like Russia and The Philippines. It is supposedly a heavy creature, the size of a small bear, with a row of spines reaching from the neck to the base of the tail.

The sighting reports of chupacabras end up being uncorroborated eyewitness reports without evidence, or canids with mange.[2] Biologists andwildlife management officials view the chupacabra as a contemporary legend.Most chupacabras are usually coyotes or wolves with mange. Chupacabras eat goats bodies fully,they dont usually leave traces of the food. They have been sighted,it has been a legend since the dawn of Mexico. So in a way chupacabras are real.

El Chupacabra is a legendary beast originating mostly in South America and Mexico, but recently claimed to be invading the southern United States. It's name means "goat sucker" and it is so named for it's supposed preferred diet of blood which it usually drains from livestock. There have been some very limited accounts of people being attacked by El Chupacabra. There are various descriptions of the beast, the more modern ones seeming to focus on the foolish belief of some people in Texas that coyotes with severe and deforming mange are the legendary creature. The more "classical" descriptions contain any of several common features:

1. a head vaguely like a grey alien's with large slanting eyes

2. eyes have been described as either shining black or glowing red, yellow or orange

3. large, strong kangaroo-like legs and a long tail which allow it to leap long distances with ease

4. front legs shorter than the back, much like a kangaroo or prehistoric raptor

5. some accounts say it has small bat-like wings as well

6. some accounts say it is covered along it's back in what look like long porcupine style quills

7. some accounts attribute a very chilling wail much like the sound of a crying child mixed with the yowl of a cat and warped with a synthesizer.

8. long, sharp claws on front and back feet

9. long, sharp fangs suited to vampire-like feeding

10. leaves three puncture wounds with little to no blood.

To be clear, the modern "sightings" in southern Texas are NOT chupacabra. They are coyotes with severe mange which has caused such severe damagee that it has made them bald and thickened their skin into distorted growths particularly around the joints. Their snouts look unusually long in the images because they are missing the ruff coyotes generally have and it makes their thin head shapes look thinner.

yes the Chupacabra does have name "Sucker" and from Spanish (Where Chupacabra originates from) to English it does mean Goat Sucker because goats are often the victims of the unexplained attacks not only in Mexico, but throughout Latin America. The Chupacabra looks like a dog-like, nocturnal creature that is largely hairless, with blue to gray skin allowing for maximum camouflage in moonlight desert landscapes. With both eyes and ears enlarged to adapt to dim light and night sounds, the animal has pronounced, razor-sharp fangs and vise-like jaws. Reputedly, in feeding in takes only the blood and fluids leaving the body largely intact. (this is according to the myth not personal imagination)
