I think so, in The Lion King simba does a bit of swimming and they do try to make the film as realistic as possible so lions probably can go underwater but not for long, as their manes get water logged. Yes, but for a short period of time, and lets keep in mind that simba was a fictional character I know but i said they made as real as possible and simba did only stay underwater for a short time

No because they don't know how to swim and they are very heavy so there is a huge chance that they will drown unlike dogs cause they are like kinda like lions but they are very lighter
