The mother cat will be very tired at first. We live on a farm and have lots of cats and our mother cats will usually stay with the kittens for maybe a day or two then come out for food and then quickly get back to the babies. Don't worry. Healthy cats can survive a couple days without food.

How long does it take for a litter of kittens to be born?

At sometimes, it could take anywhere up to 14 hours for the kittens to be born starting from when the water broke. Sometime it takes a very long time for another kitten to come out. Because the mom does need to take a break from pushing and cleaning the kittens. I would not worry because more will come out unless she only had two kittens.

When are kittens born?

A Domestic Cat's gestation is usually around 63 days long.

How many kittens can a female cat have?

Cats can have up to 5 litters a YEAR. it's usually more like 3 or 4. Each litter can be from 1 kitten to 10 or more. The average is 4-6 kittens per litter. Cats have kittens as long as they live. So spay AND neuter.

How long after having kittens will cat be in heat?

She will come into heat shortly after having her kittens, around 4 weeks afterwards and will stay in heat until she is bred again. Why not have her spayed as soon as the kittens are weaned at around 4 weeks? Would be the best thing for her.

How long until a female goes back into heat after her first litter?

This usually depends on how old the kittens are and the individual mother cat. Usually a female cat will come back into season after her current kittens are weaned. However, some cats' cycles can start again when her kittens are still very young, and some will not come into heat again for many months after the kittens are weaned.
