Do not let the kitten out until you are satisfied that he/she will be able to cope with the various dangers that the outdoors presents and that he/she will be able to find his/her way home (we were advised not to let our cats outdoors until they were at least six months old). Make sure the cat has had all its vaccinations, been neutered and been microchipped/is wearing a collar with an id tag.

Try to introduce the cat to the outside slowly- accompany it around the garden as it explores and discourage it from leaving until it is used to it, call it back frequently and reward it with a small amount of food or a favourite treat. If you have a conservatory, you can accustom the cat to that first as an intermediate, where they can view the outside but be safely confined.

We bring our cats in at night as they are less visible on the roads and therefore more likely to be injured in the dark, if you decide to do this it is a good idea to start from the first time you let them out and make it a routine- they should come in quite happily.

A kitten needs to stay inside for around 6-9 weeks in order to give the kitten plenty of time to settle in and familiarise itself with its new surroundings before letting it outside. Ideally, a kitten should never be let outside until it is 6 to 7 months old at the very earliest.

Kittens should be kept indoors until it has had all its vaccinations. This insures that its immune system is ready for the kitten to be let outside where many illnesses can be picked up. As well as vaccinations, a kitten should be neutered or spayed for at least six weeks before being let outside. This allows time for any hormones to completely calm down.

Answer: if your kitten is already indoors its best to keep it that way.... there are many dangerous things that could happen since it wasnt born outdoors.... it wont have a sense of what animals and things can harm it.... for example it could walk right up to a dog that could kill it because it doesnt know any better

Answer:

I believe it is advisable to keep the kitten indoors until it has been spayed or neutered and has had the very last of its shots. Its probably best to keep the kitten indoors for about 6 weeks after being neutered (if a male kitten), as it takes about that long for the hormones to completely calm down. This will keep the risk of him running off the moment he smells a female down to a minimum.

Once the kitten is fully vaccinated and neutered, it doesn't matter when to let the kitten out, although I was suggest using a cat harness and allowing your kitten to explore your garden/yard at first, to acclimatise him or her to the great outdoors.

How do I bring an outdoor wild kitten indoors I have an older indoor cat already. What can I do to make sure they get along I don't want to keep the kitten outdoors because the mother cat ignores it.?

They will get along fine. Cats are easier to adapt to a new kitten - compared to dogs. You can bring the kitten inside and maybe put it in a room with the door closed for a few hours. The indoor cat will sniff around and get to know it before you put them together.

When should you let a kitten out?

Kittens should be kept indoors unless you outside supervising them. Wait until they are at least 8 - 10 months old and keep a good eye on them. Lay on the grass and play with them and when you go inside take the kitten with you.

What can you do to bring an outdoor kitten to like being an indoor kitten?

Since it is already used to living outdoors it will possibly take some time for the kitten to get used to being indoors. Cats are very curious creatures, so it may take several weeks or even a few months for a cat to get used to an indoor environment. You can make this transition easier on your kitten by lavishing attention on him or her as much as you can; lots of playtime will distract your kitten and will strengthen the bond you have. It is certainly not cruel to keep a cat or kitten indoors, providing it has enough mental and physical stimulation. Toys, scratching posts, activity centres, even treat balls all stimulate a cat and keep it from being bored. If your kitten scratches at the door during this transition, you can rub citrus on the door (many cats dislike the smell of citrus greatly), or stick double-sided sticky tape or foil to the door as a way of discouraging such behaviour. Never punish or chastise the kitten. Chastising the kitten for destroying your furniture will serve no purpose other than to make it afraid of you. An alternative method is to use a harness on your kitten, so it can still go outside, but is completely safe as you are on the other end of the leash. A more expensive route is to cat-proof the fences or build a cat run, so your kitten may enjoy being outside but can do so without the many dangers that too many cats face while being outside.
