No, but the egg shells may get thin. I dry out old egg shells and then break them up into very small pieces and feed them to the hens.

Why do hens stop laying?

Hens will either stop laying due to old age, or decreasing sunlight. To keep them laying during winter you have to provide artificial light for them so they think it gets darker at the usual summer time.

What stops a chicken egg developing properly?

Poor nutrition is often the cause of disease or malformation in eggs. Chickens who do not get some form of preventative medication soon after hatch often develop digestive and oviduct diseases. If you are getting shell problems in eggs then supplement your hens diet with extra calcium or provide a good quality layer formula feed from any reputable feed store.

If a horse ate a poisenus plant would it have any loss in food?

Anytime a horse stops eating is a alert that something is definitely wrong. Not eating can be caused by countless reasons. Most horse folks call this "going off their feed" and if your horse isn't eating, it's definitely time to call the vet!

How does molting effect chicken egg laying?

Molting is the renewal of feathers. A chicken molts each year. They lose the older feathers, and grow new ones. Most hens stop or drastically slow egg production until after the molt is completed. The rate of lay for some breeds may not be affected, but their molting time is longer. Hens referred to as "late molters" will lay for 12 to 14 months before molting, while others, referred to as "early molters," may begin to molt after only a few months in production. Late molters are generally the better laying hens and will have a more ragged and tattered covering of feathers. The early molters are generally poorer layers and have a smoother, better-groomed appearance throughout the molt.
