Many species of animals migrate to warmer climates during the northern hemisphere winter, These include many types of birds. However Monarch Butterflies overwinter in Mexico and return to Canada in the summer. Some species of mammals move to the grassier areas south of their summer ranges but the distances are not as spectacular as those seen in birds. Some fish species move north to south during the year following food fish or to find breeding grounds suitable for their species. In prehistoric times there appear to have been massive migrations of dinosaurs on a yearly basis.
