A lion is a creature which is strong and fierce. It lives in the Africa plains and hunt tons of different types of antelope. Lions are common in Zoos all over the U.S.

Male lions have bushy hair all around their head. This is called a mane. The males sit around and protect the pride ( a family of lions).

Female lions are called lionesses. Or a lioness. As you can see female lions have no mane. Lionesses do the hunting in a pride.

Male lion cubs do not get their mane until a year old, but cubs may die. Out sider lions may try to kill the cubs and take over the pride, so he can mate with the females instead.
A lion is a large tawny colored cat that lives in northwestern India and Africa.
