First, have you been feeding your African Grey lots of fresh fruit or vegetables? If so, has he been concentrating on the fruit/veggies you give him and not eating his seed? If this is the case, you need to stop giving him fresh fruit/veggies for a while and eventually he will go back to his seed. Giving too much fresh fruit/veggies to any domestic bird will cause them to get runny droppings. Have you also been making sure that your parrot has lots of gravel available to him? All brids require gravel to assist them in digesting their food. Another possibility: Do you give your African Grey LOTS of attention everyday whenever your home? Parrots require a ton off attention and affection. If they don't get that, they will become depressed (yes, depressed) and start exhibiting signs. However, these signs can manifest in various ways. So if you haven't been paying attentino to your parrot, start keeping him with you whenever you are home and talk to him regularly - he might come around. But you must be willing to do this all the time. you cannot just give an African Grey 'some' attention for a while and then forget about them. If your lifestyle does not allow for you to be able to give your parrot the attention he needs, then I (kinly) suggest that you try to find him a home where there will be someone around most of the time, who will always be interactive with him. BUT, if none of the above is the case take your African Grey to your Vetrinarian. Because it is possible that your Parrot might have a cold or other viral infection. It is important for you to get your parrot to the vet so that he can get the proper treament/medication he needs. African Greys are very social parrots and if he is off his food, sleeping a lot and has loose droppings, then the indication is that he is very sick. In order to try to temp him to eat, you might try this mash: 1. MASH up 1 cooked egg yolk (boiled egg)(use the cooked yoke only) 2. Grate a little bit of carrot and add this to the mashed up egg yolk 3. Add some of your parrot's favourite seed and mash it in. The consistencey of the mash should be that you should be able to roll it into a ball in your hand. It should not be mushy or to hard. Refrigerate the remainder. You can keep this kind of mash for about 3 days. 4. Put a SMALL ball of this in an obvious spot (usually a spot your parrot prefers) If he does not eat this treat within 4 hours remove it and throw it out. Try again at another time when your parrot seems more aware or when he would normally eat again. Let me know what happens - I am concerned
