You should not give citrus fruits to a hamster. Citrus fruits such as Oranges, lemons, and grapefruits are too acidic for a hamster's digestive system and can cause stomach upset or other health issues. It's best to stick to safe fruits like apples, bananas, and strawberries in moderation as treats for your hamster.

Well my hamster didn't like me at all when i got her but if you do the exercise below, it might help it get used to you! 1. Get lots of sunflower seeds or other kind, nuts will also work but make sure it's not flavoured same for the seeds. 2. Put two treats in your palm and put your hand in the cage wait until he/she comes and starts eating them then hold her/him in your hands while he/she is eating. If for some reason he/she wont come, take her/him into your hands and give her/him the treats. 3. Do this about twice a day for a week then the next time you come near or hold him/her in your hands he/she should like you and will wait for you to give her/him attention. If this does not help then I'm sorry but for my hamster it WORKED.
I buy my hamster some hamster food at Wal-Mart and it isn't expensive. If you don't want to do that, I also feed my hamster Special K. He LOVES it! You should get the kind with the yogurt clusters. Hamsters love that! Hope this helped! :) ~Ashley
About once a day should do. Try to give them fruit about once a week. If you have those big pellets of hamster food, give them no more than one, unless they are really fatty. :3 If you have the variety kind, just one or two big pinches should do. :)

I will answer your question in more detail. Depending on what kind of hamster you can give your hamster fruit. If you have a dwarf hamster you can only give your hamster fruit once a week because of the natural sugar inside of the fruit. The reason why dwarf hamsters can only have fruit once a week is because they can get diabetes from the natural sugar which can sometimes lead to fatal death for hamsters. Please be careful on the amount of fruit you give your dwarf hamster. For Syrians I'm pretty sure you can give them more fruit more often but I'm not so sure so don't take my word for it.
