Hamsters do not eat much relative to us or other pets. In fact, many owners have the tendency to overfeed their pets. Fortunately for us, hamsters will usually only eat as much as they need.

So, what do hamsters eat?

Hamsters are omnivores but lean more to a vegetarian diet. They do very well on a complete compound food of a variety of seeds and other vegetable matter. Fresh food is also appreciated.

Some items hamsters (all species) will readily take are:

a) Rice

b) Yogurt

c) Any green vegetable - especially leafy ones (e.g. spinach, xiao pai chai, Chinese celery and other local vegetables.)

d) cooked chicken/fish

e) any sort of fruits, except sour ones like Oranges (apple, grape, banana...anything to this effect - mine take durian sometimes!)

f) carrots (although some owners claim this discolors white hamsters)

g) alfalfa (this may become more of a bedding than a food source for some hasmters)

h) Toasted bread

i) dog biscuits

Don't forget the compound food - a mixture of nuts and seeds!

Cooked vegetables and most fruits are good for a dog's diet. No bones especially chicken because they splinter easily. My dog loves speghtti. You can try all sorts of foods actually but no bones. Sausages Bacon and stuff but never choclate, cookies, etc

The list of what dogs can't eat is way smaller, a dog can eat a lot of what humans eat, actually, a home made dog food diet is preferred, theirs a lot of harmful things in commercial dog food, it's said to be true that dogs live longer eating a Raw Food diet, or a Combination of Raw & Cooked homemade food, and Fyi, if you can believe it, you save a lot more money feeding your dog that way. Google the list of things they can't eat and feed your dog what ever you please that not on the list, and the average dog on a normal diet lives about 5 years longer... Hope it Help's, Good Luck!

Human foods in large quantities are not really good for dogs, but in controlled amounts the following should be fine: cooked meat, carrots, apples, peanut butter, rice, cheese (although I have heard of dogs being allergic to cheese, not sure if that's true so I'd ask a vet first)

Those are the favourite human-foods of most dogs. There are others they can eat though.

TOXIC: onions, chocolate, garlic, cooked bones, avacado, macadamia nuts, walnuts, grapes, raisins...that's all I can think of off the top of my head. If you're not sure, don't feed it to them. So if you are going with an all human-food-diet, please please talk to a vet first, don`t just rely on google, this is your friend`s life on the line! Best of luck!

The healthiest thing that you can feed your dog is RAW meat such as chicken, turkey necks etc. I have been feeding my dogs that for about 2 years now they have a beautiful coat and they are very healthy. As some of you may know it is unhealthy for you to feed your dog a dog food with corn in it. It is very, very unhealthy. Also when you are feeding raw you will see a very big change in how much your dog would like to eat, when you are feeding your dog,dog food with corn the food just goes right through their system and they are still hungry but with raw meat it doesn't do the same thing also when your feeding normal dog food with corn substances in it they will eat about 3 meals a day with raw meat they would eat 2 meals one in the morning and one at the evening. You may think that raw meat would be a lot more expensive but actually it is the same amount as regular dog food at the time but in the long run it will be a lot cheaper because like i said before they eat a lot less through out the day.

When one of my dogs stopped eating his dry food, I started adding a little water or chicken broth to it and microwaving it for 20 seconds. He devoured it. Sometimes dogs just get bored with what they're eating.

Rice, different types of meats, veggies like carrots. But make sure the foods you are giving are safe for the dog. It would be a good idea to look up homemade dog food. The advantages of dog food are that dogs will get all of their nutrients, and its simple and easy to feed.
