For just one or two viable eggs the best place to go is a local feed outlet and post a notice asking for fertilized eggs. Most farms have a rooster among the flock and would be glad to sell or even give you an egg or two. If you want a certain breed just ask for those with that breed. You will pay for hard to find breeds but most are well below the $20.00 price for even a dozen.

Another way to get them is to contact your local 4H club and ask for the poultry club leader. Leaders are usually farmers who have or know a lot about the farmers in the area who raise chickens.

Are unfertilized chicken eggs OK to eat?

Yes, If you had a fertilized egg it would be developing into a chick. Unfertilized eggs are the ones you buy in the stores.

Do chickens have periods?

No. Only a few mammals have what is termed menstruation or a "period", meaning a flow of ejected uterine lining and blood. Since chickens never eject their uterine lining, chickens do not menstruate. The egg contains a chicken ovum and yoke sack. If fertilized, the ovum will become a fetus, then a chick.

Can you hatch a chicken from caged eggs?

Chicken eggs that you buy in the grocery store are not fertile and will not hatch. In order to raise a chicken from an egg, you start with a fertilized egg and incubate at a temperature of 99.7 degrees for 21 - 23 days, turning several times a day.

Can a regular egg turn to a chicken egg?

yes and duck eggs turn into ducklings Addition- Depends. If the egg has been fertilized with a male rooster sperm, then yes, a chick will hatch. However, if the egg hasn't been fertilized, no chick will hatch. These are the eggs that we eat.

Can a chicken lay an egg that is not fertile?

Chickens will sit on a ceramic egg. They have no way to tell that the egg is bad. See link below for this definition: Nest egg The allusion is to putting a real or china egg into a hen's nest to encourage her to lay. The connection between this and the 'savings' meaning isn't exactly clear. It may be that the idea was that the egg that was put into the nest could be later retrieved, after the hen had laid.

Are unfertlized chicken eggs good to eat?

Yes, of course they are! In fact, ALL the eggs you buy in the grocery store are unfertilized. The only difference between fertilized and non-fertilized eggs is the tiny drop of sperm. It adds an infinitesimal amount of protein. BIG on the downside: fertilized eggs go bad quicker.

Do eggs eaten by man produce chicks?

Only fertilized eggs produce chicks and even then, only under certain conditions. The eggs you buy in the grocery store are not fertilized and can never be incubated. Most eggs sold in stores are not viable.

Does the egg carton show you if fertilized?

Store bought eggs are never fertilized. If you are looking for fertilized eggs you need to go to a local farm or buy eggs from a hatchery.

Are the eggs that you buy from the store alive?

no they are not fertilized

How do you develop an human eating egg?

The eggs we buy in the supermarket are unfertilized chicken eggs. Upon fertilization, the bird begins to form within the egg. Some cultures do eat the fertilized eggs of fowl with the embryo inside.

Why do eggs that we eat not fertilize and produce a chicken?

The eggs you buy at the grocery store are not fertilized. In a large egg producing facility roosters are not needed and are culled prior to the time the hens begin to lay eggs, only hens means no fertile eggs. If your eggs have been purchased at a rural farm stand then it is likely that they have been fertilized but unless you artificially incubate them there is no chance they will develop into chicks.

Does the chicken egg you get at the shop the white colour which you consume can it be incubated?

No. Sorry, the eggs you buy at the grocery store are not fertile. These eggs are produced solely for consumers and never see a rooster among the flock. The only way to get fertilized eggs is to buy from a local producer/farmer. Most rural farms that sell eggs have a rooster among the flock.

Are you sure eggs from a carton can't hatch?

No. First of all, the eggs you buy at the supermarket are unfertilized. They have never been fertilized by a male chicken (a rooster) and thus cannot grow into baby chickens, any more than a woman's egg cell can grow into a baby without a man's sperm. Even if they were fertilized, they have been stored at very cold temperatures, so by the time you got them, the chicken embryos would be long dead.
