The fictional character- and let us confine this view to the Provost-Lockhart Lassie- the one most ex-viewers are most familiar with, resided in and around a Farm in some unstated part of the United States of America- it has been argued it was in Pennsylvania. The family name was Martin. Paul Martin was the adoptive ( kind of toned down) Father, and Ruth Martin the mother character, whle not a (Heavy) the Daddy character was somewhat inept and remote.-perhaps overly busied with farm tasks. There were a number of odd non-sequiturs. The program was chemically devoid of the slightest traces of Comedy. Not even wisecracks lightened the heavy- dark- chromacolor fire-shadow landscape. Tot and Dog in constant real risk. Hazards that would be rare in real life ( for example Forest Fires, falls into pits and wells) were staple fare in lassie- plots all went in a near-Tragic Trajectory. as stated no humor or even comic relief- May well have boosed Handkerchief sales- who needs depressive entertainment, least of all- kids.
