Owls can live in many places. Owls can find their home in tree holes, tree trunks, farms, bushes, forests, and in barns. The Barn and Short-Eared owls live in the southen states from the east coast to the west coast, and also in Mexico. Their nests are in trees, barns and caves. The Flammulated, Northern Pygmy, Western-Screech and Whiskered-Screech owls live in the western U.S. states, and as far north as the southern part of Canada, and as far south as Mexico. Their nests tend to be more in abandoned wood pecker holes. The Eastern Screech and Northern Saw-Whet owls live in the lower central to east coast states. Their nests are quite often in wood duck boxes or flickers. The Great Horned, Long Eared and Great Gray owls live in all of the U.S. and in most of Canada. Their nests are the abondoned nests of larger birds, as well as large bird nest boxes. The Burrowing owl lives in the south western part of the U.S. Their nests are often man made nesting boxes.
