Saltwater crocodiles spend the tropical wet season in freshwater swamps and rivers, moving downstream to estuaries in the dry seasons, and sometimes traveling far out to sea. Crocoldiles compete fiercely with each other for territory, with dominant males occupying the most eligible stretches of freshwater creeks and streams. Because of this fight for territory, crocodiles are very widespread, ranging from the coast of India to norther Australia, as well as odd places such as the Sea of Japan. They can swim 15-18 miles per hour in short bursts, but when cruising, they swim at 2 to 3 miles per hour. ~ Hexedgirl92

The saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus), can be found throughout the tropical regions of Asia and the Pacific. Specifically, they are distributed over the following area: Northern limit: eastern India to southeastern Vietnam. Southern limit: northern Australia. East and West limits; all the islands in between southern Asia and northern Australia. Individual animals are some times found outside this area but generally, their distribution is restricted to the area described above.
