Australia is known for having the world's largest reef, the Great Barrier Reef, and that is home and sanctuary for millions of fish, and thereby sharks. They will tend to go where there is an ample food supply. And the reefs are thriving at reefs! Smaller sharks like to hunt there, because of the vast assortment of fish, think of a reef as a buffet! They can hear all the fish they want when it gets dark. Humans swimming anywhere near a reef or drop-off are putting themselves on the list! It is that simple. As a rule, sharks don't want to eat humans. They will look for seals, pinipeds, and young whales because of the high blubber content

What country has the most shark attacks?

The bull shark and the great white shark are regarded as the deadliest sharks by most experts. The Tiger, Great White and Bull Shark are responsible for the most attacks on humans. The Bull Shark is particularly known for its aggression and may pose an elevated risk to swimmers because of its ability to tolerate fresh water. The Great White SharkDespite all of the publicity given to the great white, which certainly is a maneater, and is a huge shark, capable of growing to 23 feet and weighing over 4500 pounds or more, the tiger shark actually has more attacks on humans. But the number one killer of humans is the bull shark. Found in coastal waters in all tropical and subtropical zones, from South America to the U.S., Africa and Asia.

And they fallow thier food source, which is primarily the seals. They also fallow the warmer waterHawaii has only 40 known species of sharks, not as many as other places in the world. The island chain has only specie of seal, the endemic, critically endangered Hawaiian monk seal, which numbers just barely over 1,000 animals, not enough for white sharks to travel thousands of miles for. Tagging whites has proven many congregate in the eastern pacific between Hawaii and Mexico. Researchers speculate this may be a breeding area but further studies are needed for conclusive evidence. Sharks do NOT prefer warmer water. There are sharks that live under ice (Greenland shark) and other cold water places. (reefannie)

How many shark attacks in Hilton head?

There have only been 3 shark attacks in Hilton Head. From a total of 43 shark attacks over the past 80 years. The first recorded shark attack was in the 188s and that was the only fatal one which occurred in deep waters. There have been no recorded shark attacks in Hilton Head in years! Although there are many sharks there you will be safe. The only ones that come close to shore are small and harmless and rare. Never swim at night or in the early morning or evening. Try to avoid swimming near fishermen. Also be aware of any cuts you have or if your on your period... Sharks can smell blood from miles away. And lastly don't wear anything reflective like jewelry or sequins. Other than that there is a very very very very rare chance of a shark attack to occur.

No single person mapped the entire west coast of Australia, so it was mapped over many years. The first person to land on Western Australia's coast was Dirk Hartog, in 1616. Between then and 1699, which was William Dampier's second expedition to western Australia, various sections were mapped. What is the worst shart attack in history?

This is difficult to answer because it is so subjective, but many might say that it was following the sinking of the USS Indianapolis in July, 1945. Over 500 sailors made it off the ship, but died in the following days from exposure, drowning, and shark attacks. It is unknown exactly how many died from shark attacks.
