(EDIT) Coming from an otaku, it's probably because they are too ignorant to realize that NOT ALL ANIME IS THE SAME. They're not all fighting and robots! There are tons of genre! School life, vampires, racing, gambling and casinos, slice-of-life, ninja, magic, fantasy, Zombies, and a lot of other Japanese terms. If you like a specific type of show, chances are there's an anime for it.

As everyone knows, elephants are deathly afraid of mice so you can imagine the amount of goods lost when elephants would run away at the sight of mice. this is how the d-con company was started. One merchant who was fed up with the amount of elephants he had lost took his remaining wood and springs and fashioned the first mousetrap.
Errr....^? Ladies used to be scared of mice because they were too delicate and the mice would scurry out suddenly, so the men came to hate them too because of all the times their ladies screamed and woke them up to come get the mouse away from them.
