A cat's tail puffs up during moments of strong emotion - such as fear/aggression or extreme excitement. Cats will puff themselves up to make themselves appear larger if feel threatened, and a cat's tail will puff up if startled or scared. Even in play, the tail can suddenly become brush-like if the cat becomes very excited.
Lots of things can cause a curly tail in a cat. An injury, a disease process, or a unique set of genetics that came together in that particular cat.
To figure out the cause its best to figure out if there are any deformities to the bones or cartelidge and that's best done by an experience cat person or a vet.
If the cat carrys its tail curled but can relax it and let it go straight, congrats! You probably have one of the few cats with a complex set of genetics that created the "American Ringtail" breed. They are most common on the west coast of the US all the way up through Canada. They do however show up in the Midwest, the UK, Australia and in several breeds of purebred cats as well.
For photos of this phenomena, see www.americanringtail.com
The hairs on a cats tail raise giving it a puffy or fat appearence. This happens when the cat is displaying agression. All mammals "puff up" when they feel threatened as to appear larger and more threatening.
They also do it when they are scared.
One should not say "blow up", a cat fluffs out its tail it has either been:
1) surprised
2)frightened
3)is trying to intimidate another organism that is threateing it
4)or feeling cornered by something

Yes a cats tail is vascular.
if a cats tail is wagging (like a dog wags its tail when its happy) ten it HATES whatever is happening at that moment (this douse not count if the cats tail is only up but not wagging). so, if a catstail is still, it is calm. basicly, tail shaking, ALERT! tail still, calm.
They usually pee with their tail up. Female cats can also spray to mark territory as males do.
They don't usually have a tail. Some varieties have a stub but no full tail.
