Why does your rabbit eat or kill her babys?

rabbits eat there babys, because of a reson. sometimes they doe, knows when a kitten is going to die. it sted of leaving it there to rot and kill the other babys, it eats it. this sounds mean, but its then only way for the others to live. the also eat there babys when you go near the babys at age 1-days. wait about 4 days then you can see them. some kittens (baby rabbits) don't die. there the one's that are healthy.

More than likely the newborns are already dead and she is just eating them to get rid of them. It is the herd instinct to get rid of dead babies that might attract predators. Sometimes though it is an over anxious mom that starts cleaning her babies after giving birth and doesn't know where to stop. Rebreed her and if it happens again cull her from your herd.

A mother rabbit will not kill her babys unless she thinks that she can not take care of them because ethier there isn't enough food or there are to many to look after, but this rarly happens so not to worry. Another thing when a mother rabbit gives birth the first thing she will do is make noise and then start to remove the excess plasma from her vagina area to make way for the kits, when you see a meaty flesh in her mouth do not be alarmed into thinking shes eating one of her babys its actually just the excess plasma.
