Your rabbit is most likely pregnant. I used to breed rabbits, and does make nests of fur to keep the babies warm and to protect them.

If your rabbit is a boy, then he might be doing it for comfort or warmth, but he might be sick. Check the skin underneath the fur; if anything looks unusual (redness, excessive flaking, or anything like that), take the rabbit to the vet.

I do recommend making sure this rabbit has a nesting box. If it doesn't, then get some straw or something similar, and if you have a big wired cage, put a piece of wood on top of the wire to make sure the babies don't fall through.

She could also be having a false pregnancy with no breeding at all some rabbits do this. This is due to hormones.

It could just be shedding, see your vet if it is not shedding season as it could be a very serious medical disease.

Why Is My Female Dwarf Lop-Eared Rabbit Shedding Fur Is She Pregnant Help Me Rabbit-Lover x?

Is she pulling it out or is it just coming out as you pet her? If she is pulling it out she may be pregnant. In that case you need to get a nest box right away. If you pet her and some hair come then she is just molting.

What do you call bunny fur?

If the rabbit fur was skinned already, you could call it a skin, pelt, fur. If it's still on a breathing, live rabbit, it's called a coat. It's OK to just call it rabbit fur.

When that male rabbit humps the girl rabbit while pulling off her fur does that mean that they want to have babies?

No that is just how he gets a grip of her and won't let her leave till he is finished. He doesn't care about babies, he is just breeding her.

What if your rabbit keeps pulling out her fur but you don't see a nest?

If your rabbit is pulling out its fur, but you don't see a nest, then it probably isn't pregnancy or false pregnancy, it's probably stress.Stress can be caused by a bad lifestyle or environment, or a traumatic experience, or extreme boredom, or illness. Aside from self-mutilation (pulling fur), stress leads to a low quality of life and can lead to severe, deadly illness (GI stasis, for example). You should do everything you can to give your rabbit a happy life and minimise stress. You should also look for other signs of illness to see if there's an underlying problem, and be prepared to bring the rabbit to a vet with experience and knowledge in rabbits.Consider spaying/neutering the rabbit, because sex hormones also contribute to stress. There's also the possibility that your rabbit has a parasite or other skin problem. It's also possible that your rabbit is pregnant or has a false pregnancy, but doesn't know how to make a nest.See the related questions and links below for details on all of the above possibilities.

What should you do when your rabbit eats his fur?

Brush it. When a rabbit eats his fur, it means you need to brush it. get a special cat or rabbit brush at your pet store or walmart and brush it every day. Do you need to put the female rabbit and male rabbit in different cages if the female has started pulling out her fur and looks to be building a nest?

well i dont know about the pulling her hair out, but if she's making a nest then its more likely she is making it so she can have a litter of kits/bunnies.

How do you stop my rabbit attacking you when i brush him?

Try not brushing your rabbit at all. They don't really need it unless its an angora rabbit. Maybe give them the occasional brush when they shed their fur (every 4-5 months). You will know this when bits of fur fall out naturally - not to be confused with the rabbit pulling its own fur out with its teeth. If that happens your rabbit is under stress and you should seek medical advice. Plus your rabbit might not like being brushed and it can sometimes damage their skin. Hope I helped.

Why do your female rabbits bite fur off of the others back?

I'm sure this has something to do with building a nest. My female rabbit used to pull most of her fur of her back to make a nest when she had phantom pregnancies. It may be that this is what your rabbit is doing.
