Mallards, like many other ducks are afraid of shallow clear water with an artificial bottom like black plastic. Try covering the bottom with small rocks, like river rocks - that may help.
The cost of mallard ducks can vary depending on factors such as age, sex, and quality. On average, a pet mallard duck can range from $20 to $100. Purebred breeding pairs or show-quality mallard ducks can cost more.
While ducks can be kept as pets, they are not as common as dogs or cats. Ducks require a lot of space, proper nutrition, and access to water to thrive, so they may not be suitable for everyone. However, some people find ducks to be charming and entertaining pets.
Call ducks tend to eat bugs, worms, and even slugs. You can even purchase them food from the pet store that consists of chicken layer pellets and whole wheat.
We have a very small man made pond in our yard and recently a pair of mallard ducks began to hang around. They stay in my yard most of the day and fly away at night. I am not sure what to feed them. I purchase duck food at the pet store but they seem to be just eating the corn out of it and leaving the other seed behind. I hardly think that corn is enough for them. They do seem to be eating something in the stream leading to the pond. Maybe snails? I am not sure. I would like to make sure they are well fed because we want to put our goldfish back into the pond for the summer. OUr goldfish are large but not huge and I don't want them becoming breakfast after all I have had the parents for 2 years now and their babies were born last summer. Can anyone tell me what to put out so Momma and Poppa Duck are not hungry??
Pet ducks need a minimum of 10 square feet of indoor space per duck and at least 20-30 square feet of outdoor space per duck. It's important to provide them with a pond or kiddie pool for swimming and fresh clean water for drinking and grooming. Additionally, ducks require a shelter that is warm, dry, and secure from predators.
