Why would someone register a dog with ukc rather than kennel club is it because they are imported?

A person may register his dog with the UKC over the AKC if he has a breed not currently recognized by the AKC. The UKC recognizes over 350 breeds including the American Pit Bull Terrier. This also applies to some imported lesser known breeds that may be ineligible to be registered with the AKC.
