Please bring your cat to the vet for evaluation! The problem could be a number of things. The first thing I thought of (& I'm no vet by a looong shot!) is an absess. An absess is an deep infection that cats frequently get when they are biten by another animal. They need antibiotics to cure it. You should feel all over the cats body for any lumps/bumps that it did not previously have. Most vets will work with you if you are lacking funds. Don't neglect your pet due to money issues. And from here on try to keep you cat indoors for it's own protection.
