Amazingly, horse theft is not just a reminder of the wild west. This crime has been on the rise since the early 1990's. Hopefully if the horse has a microchip it will be harder for the thieves to resell the horse. If not it may be more difficult to get him back. If you have already notified the police keep checking back to see if there is any progress. Make up flyers and post them as many places as you can. Not just the local feed store but everywhere they will allow it. Check online. This could be your best way to reach a large amount of people in the fastest time. Check local horse facilities. Horse people network. If someone suddenly gets a 'new' horse their friends will probably know about it. Make sure as many people as you can know your horse's description and that he is missing. If he has any distiguishing marks or scars let everybody know that too. And last, don't give up. Many horses are found and returned to their rightful owner.

well you cant do it yourself but one month is one year.
My horses (five in total) are riders on my homeowners policy. They cost an additional $10.00 a year for liability insurance. I also have an insurance policy for health care of them. That costs $495 a year (per horse) and includes one "floating" of their teeth each year. Last year we had one colic issue that cost about $4000.00. Farrier work costs $40.00 a month for no shoes and $170 a month for horses that need shoes. If you are worried about the cost of health care on a horse, figure about $200.00 a month per horse average and you should have a few bucks left over after a few years. It is the hidden non insured costs that kill you in this hobby.
I think it's Hot to Trot, the one with Mr. Ed in it.

It depends on several factors. These include, how much the horse licks it. Where you have it set out at. They last longer if under the cover of a roof. How big the block is, larger blocks last longer of course. And the weather, the hotter and more humid, the more the horse will use it. The above answer is very accurate, but generally with just one horse a 4-5lb brick will last a month, while a 50lb block can last up to a year or two.
