I think your model has a belt driven fan (not the electric type) and anyway at normal driving speeds it should ram enough air to cool. Make sure the radiator vanes are not blocked.
If this isn't it, either the water pump is bad or the radiator is blocked. Make sure you don't have a crimped hose (not common). Take off the radiator fill cap (cool engine), fire it up and let it warm up. You *may* be able to see water moving. If it's not moving well, this may indicate water pump.
You said you weren't losing water, but check for water in the oil (milky chocolate appearance), steam out the tailpipe or pressure pushing a lot of water out of the radiator or jug. These would indicate a bad head or head gasket.
I had a problem with my 99 durango running hot also. After changing the water pump, and thermostat it still ran hot.The problem winded up being the radiator itself. No hole in it. It was just badly corroded inside. We also found out that you should use the antifreeze that is made for the durango. cost about $8.00 at wal*mart or auto parts store around $10. The kind that we use to put in it is probaly what caused the corrosing.
many things could be wrong......if you are losing antifreeze it could be a hose, water pump, a radiator leak, head gasket....check for any orange or green fuild under the hood of the car and any signs of somthing being wet.......if no fuild is lost could be the themostat...if u have no heat in the car it could be a sign of the themostat...the themostat could be stuck closed...this is if there is not major damage to the car entarnaly to the engine....

If your Durango Has a 4.7 Liter I Would Look Into Either the Camshaft Sensor Or Crankshaft Sensor. There Is a Fair Amount of Losing Power and Stalling Problems With Either Sensor
