I'm not 100% sure about long term, I would guess your mood would return to normal once meds are stopped. while on it you need to be under the care of a pscyh In response to above post: I was the first person to be treated in Washington state with Interferon, and was retreated 10 years later with combo Interferon-Ribavirin therapy. After nearly dieing from the Ribavirin combo I have suffered from many debilitating side effects. I have just been told that my immune system has gone after my body like an autoimmune syndrome. It has attacked my bones, Thyroid and other systems. I have suffered from deep depression for over 12 years now. It's better then being dead, meds control pain and depression.
The Pegylated interferon treats chronic hepatitis. Pegylated interferon, usually called peginterferon, is chemically modified from the standard interferon that treats hepatitis C and B.
At present, there is no cure for Hepatitis B. There is a vaccine that will prevent it, however.
Interferon therapy is used to treat a variety of diseases. The most common are multiple sclerosis, cancer, hepatitis B and hepatitis C. Interferon therapy causes immunosuppression.

Yes
I think yes. I say so because I am currently conducting research on interferon induced arthritis and our data indicates that interferon(treatment for hepatitis C ) can actually cause arthritis.
Synthetic Interferon
Interferon is a particularly useful drug in the prevention of viral infections. Its uses are widespread, and backed by clinical evidence bases, but interferon is most commonly used in cases of hepatitis and liver cirrhosis.
Infection with the virus that causes hepatitis C is hindered by interferon via the binding to a site on human cells that is also used by the virus. Thus, the virus cannot enter and infect the host cell
