First check the transmission linkage and make sure it is actually clicking into gears. If not, it may need to be re-adjusted. Next, your transmission may be in "limp Transmission_won't_shift_out_of_2nd_gearmode" which is popular with those transmissions. There are 2 speed sensors in your transmission, an input and an output. These tell the transmission what speed the engine is running and tells the transmission when to shift. They run about $17 each. Make sure to pick up a deep dish socket to fit them as well. Other than that, you may have more serious problems and you should take it to a shop. Hope this helps!
There are several causes that an automatic transmission will not want to shift into second gear. The two most common causes are transmission pump issues and trouble with the vacuum modulator.
A seized up transmission can cause a Volkswagen Golf with an automatic transmission to not shift and racing RMPs after second. A worn gear can also prevent shifting.
A bad transmission gear can cause your 1999 Nissan frontier to shift hard. Low transmission fluid can also cause the transmission to shift hard.
Second gear is the default gear when the computer detects a malfunction. You need to have the transmission computer checked for codes to know what to diagnose.
An automatic transmission can lock in a Honda for several reasons. The most common problem is with the shift solenoids. These parts allow the transmission to shift and when one is malfunctioning the gearbox may not go into gear.
The transmission will only shift from 1st gear into second gear. It will not shift into 3rd, 4th or overdrive. Generally, temporarily used for pulling a heavy load like pulling a boat out of the water.
If your gear shift is freezing it could be because your clutch is not longer working. If you have an automatic then your transmission may be slipping.
That would be the second gear of your automatic transmission.
No it will shift slow.
In automatic transmissions the second to third syncronizers always seem to go bad first, the syncronizers are worn, bad or gone. This is common in these transmissions. Also you might check your trans fluid level, sometimes a low level will cause the transmission not to shift correctly.
Automatic Transmission. You can also get semi-automatics where the driver decides what gear to put the car in, but the gear changes are done by an automatic mechanism.
A hard shift from first gear to second gear in the Honda Accord could be because of a linkage problem with the transmission. It could also be a problem with the transmission screen needing to be cleaned or low transmission fluid.
