Not only can they eat eat beets, it's recommended. Beets contain high concentration of natural source betanin ( a strong antioxidant), Vitamins B and C, folate, iron, potassium, and magnesium. Beets help support allergy control, healthy weight, energy levels, inflammation relief, antioxidant levels and immune system. Beets also pack a powerful punch for cleansing the liver. I feed my two dogs dehydrated beets with every meal. I re-hydrate them prior to feeding and it only take a couple seconds for them to return to their fresh appearance.
Check out the related link below: that's where I get all my beets.
There seems to be some debate on this topic. The ASPCA (American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) says beets and beetroot are not toxic to Canines. Purina of UK, another reputable source, says beetroot IS toxic, but does not go on to define the toxicology involved.
Joshua Arthur Nunn, in Veterinary Toxicology says yes, but only cites "beetroot molasses". If you don't know what that is, don't worry -- the book was pubilshed in 1907. This writing may be the source of the indication that beetroot is dangerous, and I have my doubts about its accuracy (as the toxicology cited therein pertains perhaps not to the beetroots themselves, but to the processes of making molasses with them -- no way for me to tell).
In this situation, I would avoid giving my dogs beetroot just in case. But if I had to guess, I'd say it's safe.
Beets are actually great for dogs under the right circumstances. Beets can enhance your dogs coat, they can improve their immune system, they can help to maintain a healthy weight, and can help their antioxidant levels. I use dehydrated supplements and I have found that it is the best way to feed it to your pets.
I would recommend checking out Olewo products, and head to their website for more information.
